DETROIT IS BEAUTY
You wouldn't know it by looking at some of the abandoned buildings, or the neglected faces of some of the children, but, Detroit is beauty. Beauty in long relationships, old school teachers, the coney we still go to after hours or before, the churches we attend, the music we create. In a mind of peace, you can see everything different. With the heart of love, you never respond to anything, or anyone the same. You must forgive me.... I just write. Never scribble or throw the words away so if it comes out wrong, it comes out wrong. If you don't understand because you shine the light on the flower and not the dirt, that is for you to fix, not me. But I'm shining the light on the Flower now, not the dirt. The schools that DO work. The teachers who DO care. The church that loves the hurting and doesn't push them away. The businesses that are STILL open..... Please tell me that you can see past the dirt!!! I can. Even when I want to blend in with everyone else and pretend I dont. But then I feel bad, Detroit, because I didn't stand up for you like I should have. I don't want to kill you or sell you out or hate on you, Detroit. I just want to love you. I want to write songs that shine the light on your flower, and not your dirt. Can I do that for you, Detroit? May I shine this little light o mine on you?.... And in return, pray that God would shine His light on me. Answer me soon, Detroit. My future is depending on you.... I love you always, no matter what. Fo Better or for Worse.
